Since the creation of modern circus in London 1768, circus in the UK has had cause to diversify. Transient performing art communities recognise the intrinsic and physical need to adapt to social, economic, political and technological change. It is evident that modern circus has evolved over recent centuries, it currently exists in traditional, contemporary and hybrid form and collectively continues to reinvent itself. Circus in the UK is diverse and complex, it is an innovative and professional art-form which continues to explore new boundaries. Research conducted at the University of Bradford 2021-2023 will explore how UK Circus in the 21st Century can be best represented.
